Charity Hockey Game
The Picture Butte Blades Peewee hockey team is organizing and participating in a number of “Good Deeds” over the Christmas season. We are participating in a competition called the Chevrolet and Hockey Canada Good Deeds Cup; however, our players started planning to do these good deeds even before they realized there was a competition to win money for charity of their choice.
This year, two moms on our team were diagnosed with breast cancer and are currently battling this disease. This has really had an impact on our players and families on the team – not to mention the two families who are affected.
The one upside to this terrible disease is the incredible amount of compassion, support and empathy that it has brought out in this amazing group of 11 and 12 year olds.
The players have come up with some fantastic ideas to raise money for cancer and raise awareness of the disease all on their own – the whole team taped their sticks with pink hockey tape; everyone on the team is wearing the pink ribbon stickers signifying breast cancer awareness on their helmets; and the players have started organizing a pink-themed bake sale to be held at our annual tournament. All the money the players raise at the bake sale will be donated to a cancer charity chosen by the players.
To show our hockey community support for our team families and the moms battling breast cancer, we are hosting a charity hockey game between our Picture Butte Peewee Blades and the Picture Butte Fire/EMS/RCMP. This hockey game will take place on Friday, December 21 at 6:30pm at the North County Rec Center in Picture Butte.
We will be asking for monetary or food bank donations at the door, with all monetary proceeds going to a cancer charity chosen by the players. As well, we will run a 50/50 draw, have a small raffle table and a bake sale with all proceeds being donated to the chosen cancer charity.
Our team would like to request your support by coming to the game and cheering on all the players on both teams. It will be a great night!
